Tessellations, Tangrams, and Family Math at Laguna Gloria

Matt HertelCommunity Partnerships, Events, Museums

On Saturday, January 10th, 2026, the MathHappens Foundation joined our friends from The Contemporary Austin for their Second Saturdays Are for Families (SSFF) event at Laguna Gloria.

With help from local volunteers from the National Charity League, Manuel from MathHappens guided community members in collaboratively building a “Versatile Garden” – a tessellating collage of Versatile frames filled with 21st Century Pattern blocks.

Elsewhere on the property, families measured objects around the Laguna Gloria sculpture park with tape measures, admired the resident peacocks, and had fun playing with Tangrams and creating Tangram-inspired artwork.

We look forward to more fun with our friends at The Contemporary Austin in the future!
