Wow – Pi Day was a great day for Seattle’s SUMM! In addition to their outreach programs in libraries and with partners all over the region, they now have a permanent space at Kent Station from which they now offer open hours and programs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. I got to celebrate with Jenny Quinn, Executive Director of SUMM and Tracy Drinkwater, President and Founder of SUMM
MathHappens is pleased to be a part of it all. We’ve sent all our favorite activities and it was exciting to see them pulled off shelves by more than 350 visitors over 4 hours.
Geometiles were a huge hit. Folks were able to free design and built some amazing complex designs with just an inspiration from this beautiful signage created by SUMM. We love this building set.

Our own Bubble Tiles got lots of play time too. Several people solved the “One of Each” challenge and others were interested in the Bubble Tile Garden.

Also quite popular, were 21st Century Pattern Blocks by Math For Love with frames by MathHappens. We love to see the creativity!

And of course Blocks Jr. designed by Scott Kim is a part of our space as well. We love the engagement by parents and kids alike. Of course we have the table top and the foam floor versions.

Its not a MathHappens event if we aren’t challenging folks to solve the Puzzle A Day. This brilliant puzzle is different every day and it promises a flood of endorphins evidenced by BIG smiles if you manage to solve it. Hats off to Dragon Fjord for this design.

It was also fun to see some our other items pulled off the shelves or just played with on the shelves. These include Golden ratio triangle designs, the balance scale and the Platonic solids matching game.

There’s so much more in the Kent Station space with programs and field trips and more activities to come!
