At the ISEA conference, Dr. Wesson handed out some nifty FOSS building kits.

So I wrote up a math lesson to go with it. Its adaptable to any level of student and allows for some really cool and interesting questions. If you offer building projects to your students, you may want to try this spreadsheet activity. It will allow you to extend this activity beyond building to the kinds of economic tradeoffs that are inherent to any construction project with multiple components.
