We were invited, along with the Seattle Universal Math Museum (SUMM) to host a play space at NCTM’s Regional Conference in Seattle that took place earlier this month. The whole team organized materials, and then Matt Hertel and I met in Seattle ready to play math!
Due to the nature of the space, and fire codes and whatnot, we had a large space with three main areas.
- Space 1
- Space 2
- Space 3
A little out of the way, folks had to be looking for us to find us. But their efforts were rewarded with relaxation, make-and-takes, challenges, and giveaways.
Here’s what we brought along:
- The Hexagon Challenge (with 100 cardboard hexagon frames to give away)
- Reuleaux cars (and a chance to drive the Barbie Reuleaux Dream Car)
- Bubble tiles (more information on these coming to the blog soon!)
- Scott Kim‘s Block by Block Junior
- Parabola Curve Stitching
- Geometiles
- Hexagon Challenge table
- Good job!
- Scott Kim’s Block by Block Junior, from a distance
- Geometiles creation
- Bubble tile mosaic
- Reuleaux cars
We had lovely conversations about math, play, and classrooms with attendees, and with the facilitators from SUMM. Here’s hoping we get invited back to a future conference!
