Making Math Happen: The MathHappens Approach to Math Learning Outside the Classroom by Lauren Siegel
Abstract: In school, mathematics tends to be a subject that children experience on paper and on screens. Outside of school and homework, mathematics may be largely invisible to many children and families. In this chapter, I describe a range of techniques and materials that have been developed for mathematics learning outside classrooms, including students going on field trips, families visiting a nature center or spending a day at the fair, and individuals reading a local weekly newspaper.
