MathHappens Workshop at the Davidson Institute

Lauren SiegelPresentations and Workshops

Thank you to Dr. Yossi Elron and the Davidson Institute for a terrific visit and the opportunity to share MathHappens philosophy and methods with twenty teachers, administrators and young adults  preparing to work with schools on mathematics.

In addition to Geometiles, 21st Century Pattern Blocks, Blocks Jr. and Bubble Tiles we selected a variety of materials to leave with the educators at Davidson.  And Yana Mohanty provided a wonderful Geometiles sculpture she recently designed.  Its a cube that can be deconstructed in slices.

The program notes are here.  Our goals for the session included ways to foster positive responses to mathematical challenges, building structures and then exploring with them, introducing novel models of infinity, and using a variety of materials including coloring on wood with markers, creating patterns with a circular compasses and, gluing wood blocks.

Visiting the Davidson campus at the Weizmann Institute.  We also visited their makerspace where we received this 3d printed sculpture!
