MathHappens @ The Fleet Science Center

MathHappens was the guest at the Fleet Science Center's Genius in the Houser program.

This past Sunday, math happened at The Fleet Science Center! MathHappens was the Fleet’s Genius in the House – a program that brings outside guests into the museum to enhance the exhibit experience.

The Fleet has always been a magical place for me. Probably because I’ve been going to the Fleet ever since I was a child (here’s a photo of 5-year-old me). Like many San Diegans, I remember being in awe of the Tesla coil, or scratching my head at the optical illusions. The Fleet is where kids were invited to be curious and wonder about the world around them.

It was special to be back in a place that meant so much to me. This time, I had the opportunity to invite others into that same curiosity and wonder. As participants responded with a smile, hooray, or head scratch, it all felt so familiar. Who knows? Maybe one of the children who stopped by will be the Fleet’s Genius in the House one day.
