There’s a lot of math happening in Florida!
From community events and partnerships to Math Rooms and Open Play Kits, MathHappens is finding lots of ways to bring hands-on, playful math into communities across the state.
A Growing Math Community
This October, MathHappens is attending the Fall Convening of the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations (CFEF). This gathering will kick off a year-long body of work focused on math opportunities both inside the classroom and out in the community.
We’re looking forward to meeting members of the Consortium, learning more about the state of math education in Florida, and exploring how communities can help build students’ confidence with math and show why math matters far beyond the classroom.
Family Day at The Underline
In May 2025, we joined Family Day at The Underline in Miami and had a wonderful time!
We brought hands-on activities and gave away take-home Math Magic kits based on some of the models we brought to the event. A group of passionate Breakthrough Collaborative students helped us facilitate, bringing tons of energy and getting kids excited about math through informal play, even in the rain!
Math Rooms and Open Play Kits
MathHappens is also building a growing network of hands-on math spaces across Florida.
Our Open Play Kits are currently being used at:
- Pensacola MESS Hall (Pensacola)
- SOAR Lab (Manatee County)
- Orlando Math Circle (Orlando)
- Emerald Coast Science Center (Walton Beach)
And in August 2026, we opened a new Math Room at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) in Fort Lauderdale.
Find MathHappens in Florida
Our Math Rooms and Open Play Kits are creating opportunities for families and communities to explore math all across the state.
We’re excited to see this network continue to grow and to find new ways to bring playful, hands-on math to communities throughout Florida.
There’s lots more to come!
