On the weekend of October 3rd, 2025, MathHappens celebrated the grand opening of a brand new Math Room at the Wise Wonders Science + Discovery Museum in Billings, Montana!
The space officially opened with two lively shifts, one on Friday from 2–5 pm and another on Saturday from 12–3 pm, and both days saw a steady stream of families exploring, creating, and discovering the joy of math through play.

Even Saturday’s rain couldn’t dampen the excitement, as visitors filled the museum to explore the new hands-on exhibits. Children and adults alike were drawn to the colorful 21st Century Pattern Block puzzles, one of the many interactive features designed to spark curiosity and problem-solving.
“This station was so fun. I could just sit here all day doing this stuff.”
“I’m really good at this.”
“I want a harder one!” (after finishing several puzzles)
These reactions capture exactly what MathHappens aims for – joyful engagement, confidence building, and a desire to explore deeper mathematical ideas.
The Math Room was coordinated by Lisa A., with Cherie S. serving as the opening weekend facilitator. MathHappens Directors Elizabeth W. and Melissa W. were also on hand to help welcome visitors, answer questions, and celebrate the launch with the Billings community.
The Wise Wonders Math Room joins a growing network of MathHappens spaces across the country, from Austin, Albuquerque, and Mankato to Seattle and now Billings, all dedicated to showing that math is everywhere and that everyone can enjoy it.
We’re grateful to the Wise Wonders team for their partnership and enthusiasm, and to all the families who stopped by to make the grand opening weekend such a success. We look forward to many more weekends of math play, discovery, and wonder in Billings!
