The Austin Zoo is a great place, and a great place to think about Math in Nature! We brought giant calipers with us that were designed to show proportions 1:1, 1:2 and 1: 1.618. Using our calipers we explored some physical manifestations of the Golden Mean. We also followed Fibonacci’s original instructions as we modeled the Rabbit Problem. The ratio of the higher Fibonacci numbers is the Golden Mean. What a great group of visitors and the Math Happens UTeach staff were amazing as always ensuring visitors enjoyed this math and having a great time themselves.
